Samvatsara

Samvatsara is our Hindu calendar for iPhone, "Samvatsara: Hindu Panchang" on the App Store. It shows dates and times, and what families traditionally do on them. It makes no predictions.

How are the dates worked out?
On your iPhone, from the positions of the sun and moon for your city. Samvatsara finds your city's sunrise, then the tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana at that moment, each with the time it ends. Each festival follows its traditional rule: the tithi, and the time of day that decides it. For most festivals that time is sunrise. For Diwali it is the evening, for Janmashtami midnight, and for Karva Chauth moonrise.
Why is a festival on a different day from India?
Sunrise and moonrise come at different moments in different places, so the same tithi can fall on a different day where you live. Samvatsara shows your city's date, with India's date alongside, worked out for New Delhi. Your family can follow the one it keeps.
Why does a date differ from another calendar?
Calendars follow slightly different rules for some festivals, and some print India's date for everyone. Times can also differ by a minute or so, because each calendar works out sunrise a little differently. First check that your city, region and tradition are set as your family keeps them. If a date still looks wrong, write to us with the festival, your city and the calendar you compared it with. We read every report.
How do I change my city?
Tap the city name at the top of Today, or open Settings and tap City. Search for your city, or tap Use my location, then tap Done. The list has every place in the world with more than 5,000 people. If your town is not there, pick the nearest one.
How do I change my region or tradition?
Open Settings. Region sets the festivals that differ by region: North Indian, Gujarati or Marathi. Tradition, Smarta or Vaishnava, sets the dates of Ekadashi, Rama Navami and Janmashtami where the two differ. Month style, Purnimanta or Amanta, changes only the month names. Festival dates stay the same. Not sure which to pick? Tap the i beside Tradition or Month style for a short explanation, with an example for your city.
How do I restore my purchase?
On a new iPhone, or after you install the app again, open Settings in Samvatsara and tap Restore purchase. Use the same Apple Account you bought the unlock with. If someone in your Family Sharing group bought it, tap Restore purchase on your own iPhone. Apple handles payments and refunds. To ask for a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com.
My reminder did not come.
Reminders come at 7:00 PM on the evening before, in your city's time. Check that notifications are on for Samvatsara in your iPhone's Settings, and that a Focus is not holding them back.

NavikTax is our app for Indian seafarers, on iPhone and Android. It counts your days in India against the 182-day limit, plans your sign-off and makes a PDF statement for your tax return. It is free, has no account, and works at sea.

Where are my trips and details kept?
On your phone, inside the app. Nothing is sent to us. Your phone's own backup covers the app's folder, under your Apple or Google account.
How do I move to a new phone?
On the old phone, open About me and tap Export backup; send the file to yourself or save it to your drive. On the new phone, open About me, tap Import backup and choose that file. Trips, details and photos all come across, between iPhone and Android too.
Which dates count as days outside India?
For a voyage between an Indian port and a foreign port, the days from your CDC sign-on date to your CDC sign-off date, both included. For a voyage between two foreign ports, the days between your passport stamps. The Rules tab in the app explains each case with its source.
Why does the app show two counts?
The day you land in India is disputed: tax officers count it, several tribunals leave it out. The app plans by the strict count and shows the kinder one beside it.
Will the tax office accept the PDF?
The PDF states your days from your own documents, in the words of the return, and says what it is. Nothing is attached to a return in India; you keep the statement ready in case you are asked. The app gives no tax advice.
The app is in English. How do I get Hindi?
Open About me and tap हिन्दी at the top. The PDF stays in English, because the return and every notice are in English.
I spent 182 days or more in India. What now?
Read "If you cross the limit" on the Rules tab. It explains what changes for that year, and that each tax year starts again on 1 April.
Something is wrong. How do I report it?
Write to hello@waypoints.sg with "NavikTax" in the subject line. Tell us what you entered, what the app showed and what you expected. Please do not send your PAN or passport number.

Merry-Go-Drop

Merry-Go-Drop is our arcade game for iPhone and iPad: five spinning buckets and one button. It is free for 7 days, then one unlock keeps it. No ads, and it plays offline.

How do I play?
Press DROP to drop the ball. Land one ball in every bucket to clear the round. A ball in the bucket of its own colour scores 2 points, and after 10 in a row your points double. Every 25 points adds 10 seconds. To see How to play again, tap ? on the start screen.
What are the tray tricks?
From round 6 the turntable plays tricks, five rounds each. Up and Down: the tray rises and sinks, and a shadow shows where the ball will land. Switchback: a horn sounds and the lights flash, then the tray spins the other way. Spotlight: only the lit bucket is open. Then they come round again, a little harder.
Arcade or Challenge?
In Arcade a miss costs 1 second and ends your streak. In Challenge one miss ends the game. Choose on the How to play card, or on the result card after a game. Each mode has its own top 10.
How does the free trial work?
Press DROP the first time, then tap Start free trial. You get the whole game, both modes, for 7 days. Starting the trial needs the internet once. After that the game plays offline. When the 7 days are up, play stops until you unlock the game once. Your scores stay. Installing the game again does not start a new trial.
How do I restore my unlock?
On the start screen, tap i, then Restore purchase. Use the same Apple Account you bought the unlock with. If someone in your Family Sharing group bought it, tap Restore purchase on your own device. Apple handles payments and refunds. To ask for a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com.
Where are my scores?
On the device you played on. There is no online leaderboard, so scores do not move to another device, except through your device's own backup. Deleting the game deletes them.
I can't hear anything.
Check the speaker button at the bottom left of the start screen, then turn your device's volume up. The game plays sound even when silent mode is on.
